Marital Status Declaration and Proof of No Current Marriage in Ukraine

A certificate of marital status (declaration of civil status) may be required when getting married abroad and is an essential document for submitting an application to register a marriage in many jurisdictions.
Types of Marital Status Declarations from Ukraine
- The individual has never been married and is not currently married.
- The individual is not currently married (for persons whose previous marriage has been dissolved).
- A declaration confirming that the individual is widowed.
Ukrainian citizens and stateless persons residing in Ukraine or abroad who need to confirm their marital status for the purpose of entering into a marriage may submit to the competent authorities of a foreign country a declaration confirming that they are not currently in a valid marriage.
Under Ukrainian law, an individual may obtain a document confirming the absence of a registered marriage. The declaration is executed before a notary on an official notarial form and contains the individual's personal details together with a statement confirming that the applicant is not currently married.
The period of validity of the declaration varies depending on the country in which it will be submitted. As a general rule, such documents are accepted abroad for approximately three months from the date of issue.
